Summary:
The Design Research and Consumer Insights brings the user: kids, parents, teachers, and administrators into the heart of productization, design, and communication across the entire organization. Our users come from challenging populations to study (like little kids or entire school districts) and executing this research requires team members who identify first and foremost as skilled people-scientists driven by a mission to serve kids and education.
We’re looking for an exceptional person to lead research operations and project management across our entire team, to enable us to reach new heights in addressing the ever-evolving key questions for our organization. This is a highly valued, highly respected team, and we seek a Research Project Manager to maintain and improve upon our standing, ultimately to help forward our mission to help children everywhere build a strong foundation for academic success and a lifelong love of learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of all research operations and management functions for the research team, leading, innovating, and adapting to shifting organizational needs under the guidance of the head of Design Research & Consumer Insights
  • Manage a complex matrix of research project timelines, research personnel bandwidth, and important operational dates
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with internal partners as well as external third-party organizations involved in research operations
  • Execute most technical communications with external partners including writing and providing Statements of Work (SOWs) and managing procedural or operational documents like non-disclosure agreements
  • Be the first point of contact for cross-functional partners within the organization (legal, business technical operations, etc.) to advocate for and execute team requirements
  • Maintain and grow our various research panel databases, collaborating with partners on participant recruitment
  • Constantly seek to deeply understand organizational priorities and boldly innovate in operations management in service of those priorities. We’re looking for an innovator who knows what’s important to our organization, not a yes-man
  • Support in data collection, including support in moderated research sessions with child participants
  • Support in the production of research reports, summaries, and highlight reels
  • Manage documentation, including research protocols, reports, briefs and media files
  • Track and develop reports on our team activities, for example, tracking upcoming, current, and past research and reporting on the organization-wide impact of our work
  • Assist in publishing research in peer-reviewed journals from a project management standpoint
  • Adhere to standards of research ethics and excellence

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience in a research operations or research management role, preferably in a children’s digital product environment
  • Strong prior experience with project management tools such as Smartsheet, Concur, or Jira
  • Experience with participant and database management tools such as Braze or Salesforce CRM
  • Experience with user research tools such as dscout, UserZoom or Dovetail
  • Experience working with finance to manage compensation of research participants in a large, matrixed organization
  • Experience with communication software and workflows, including multiple shared email accounts and participant contact workflows. You’re the teammate who checks communications fastest and with the highest attention to detail.
  • Substantive prior experience working with third parties in an operational support function (e.g., working with panel providers for large scale surveys or working with school districts to secure research participants)
  • High EQ. Willingness to manage and lead the team with a cheerful outlook in stressful times, including planning team outings and morale building events
  • Kindness and empathy as a cornerstone of social science research and communication within and across teams
  • A commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, especially with respect to participant recruitment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience with children’s media and/or educational products and services
  • Background in education, psychology, child development, or related field
  • Knowledge and practice of human subjects research ethics, with special attention to research with children
