Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronic devices. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com. Since then, we have worked to produce hardware and software for Fire tablets, Kindle, Fire TV, Smart Home, and Amazon Echo. The Packaging Engineering team works closely with Design, Global Commodity Management, Supplier Quality Management, and Operations teams in the US and China throughout the design and sustaining cycles. They are responsible for helping to drive the development of packaging part manufacturing and processes towards Marketing and ID intent. They are also responsible for participating in early engagement design recommendations, driving detailed engineering studies, and continuously driving towards yield and cycle time targets ahead of mass production.

Key job responsibilities
As a Packaging Engineering Manager, you will lead the Amazon Branded Devices and Accessories Packaging Structure Engineering global team.

Leadership and deep knowledge in the following areas:
• Driving packaging engineering strategy and initiatives from concept through mass production aligning the packaging development with the hardware development process.
• Make critical decisions on packaging structure and the unboxing experience by fostering innovation in packaging design, materials, and sustainability.
• Establish and maintain high standards for packaging quality across all product lines.
• Be the critical escalation path for packaging process issues while working closely with China and US leadership teams to ensure cross-functional collaboration is effective.
• Demonstrate strong executive presence in senior leadership meetings and presentations.
• Ensure compliance with international packaging regulations and standards.
• Work closely with device hardware & operations teams, commodity managers, product managers, and visual design.
• Collaborate with external vendors and partners.
• Proven strong organizational and problem solving skills
• Enthusiasm for getting “hands on” with your team in collaborative environments
• Ability to identify risks, develop clear mitigation plans, and communicate effectively to executive stakeholders while handling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced rapidly evolving environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years direct management of packaging design for consumer electronics company
• BS degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Design
• Deep understanding and experience with material selection, material customization, optimization, and qualification for high end consumer electronics packaging

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years direct management of packaging design for consumer electronics company
• Experienced travel to China and SE Asia
• Demonstrated ability shipping Consumer Electronics packaging in mass production, globally
• Demonstrated ability managing a global team
• Ability to communicate technical issues effectively to leadership
• Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external partners
• Ability to travel domestically, to the EU, China, and SE Asia

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $234,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
