Job Description:

The Lead Content and Instructional Writer collaborates closely with ELA 6–12 leadership and cross-functional teams to take a principal role writing across a variety of key content and in-market management projects. This role has a high level of independent responsibility across projects, developing and strategically applying a strong understanding of the program pedagogy, content architecture, and instructional frameworks.

The Lead Content and Instructional Writer works closely with the Director & Associate Director with a strong focus on [but not limited to] projects that support the ongoing sale, adoption, implementation, & support of the commercial ELA programs. They are able to act as a lead writer for in-market projects that include state adoption and district rubrics, updates to the commercial program, and support and customer facing materials. They also strategically take a lead writing role for new content, under the guidance of the Director & Associate Director of ELA. This job involves developing content to meet the specifications of a specific project, incorporating feedback to ensure the quality and consistency of ELA content, and communicating closely with teammates to ensure that work handoffs and project delivery happens on time. Successful Lead Content and Instructional Writers have proven experience developing high quality content and demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and initiative.

We look for intellectually creative people who are ready to roll up their sleeves to develop content that makes secondary classrooms hum and that comes to life on both digital platforms and the printed page. We look for people who have experience with content development and learning design and solid familiarity with the creation of digital educational tools and materials; who are ready to think creatively about critical reading, writing, and discussion skills; who “get” both middle school students and the texts that will turn them into readers, and who are able to conceptualize content, lead projects, work collaboratively and manage work streams.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop materials that reflect a deep understanding of all aspects of the Amplify ELA 6–8 program’s pedagogy, instructional framework, design vision, and product tools

  • Collaborate with Editorial and Content leadership to ensure content meets Editorial guidelines

  • Work closely with the ELA Leadership and the Bids & Adoptions team to draft responses to state adoption criteria and district RFPs that showcase the best aspects of the ELA program and align accurately to the given requirements

  • Take a lead role in content work related to the existing commercial ELA program, including providing targeted reviews and audits of a specific piece of content, drafting updated content to address a prioritized issue, developing content related to work prioritized for the back-to-school updates

  • Create or review content developed for a specific customer or to support a new initiative

  • Develop targeted content for new ELA product initiatives, collaborating closely with relevant team members to align content to the pedagogy and goals of the pertinent program components

  • Maintain consistency of voice, attention to detail, and adhere to program style, vision, and philosophy

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA in English or Humanities field or related field with strong content background in literary genres and critical analysis

  • 5+ years of education experience in secondary education (grades 6–12)

  • Experience creating educational content in a team environment

  • Experience with educational publishing or with creating standards-aligned curricula that integrate different genres, digital technology, and media

  • Demonstrated writing skills

  • Strong analytic reading and thinking skills

  • Strong communication skills and the experience that illustrates an ability to provide clear and useful feedback to others—particularly about written content

  • Acute attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in a literature or education-related field

  • Experience teaching to and supporting a diverse range of learners

  • Experience working with the implementation, training or support for a commercial educational product.

  • Strong understand of ELA content standards

  • Willingness to try out new ideas with real teachers and students and return to the drawing board if needed

  • Strong familiarity with a range of technology

What we offer:

Salary is only one component of the Amplify Total Rewards package, which includes a 401(k) plan, competitive health insurance and mental health options, basic life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, and access to best-in-class development programs. The gross salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000. This role is eligible to earn an annual discretionary bonus that rewards individual and company performance.
