About the Role

Avenues: The World School is seeking an experienced, innovative, and passionate Upper Division Visual Arts Teacher, with deep knowledge of 2D and 3D materials and techniques and strong proficiency in digital media. This position focuses on designing and teaching dynamic courses in visual and digital arts for students in grades 6–12.

What You’ll Do

  • Teach a variety of upper school visual arts electives, with a focus on:
    • Studio art, guiding independent and advanced student projects
  • Design and deliver rigorous, relevant, and engaging curriculum aligned with contemporary practices.
  • Foster a creative studio environment that encourages experimentation, critique, and reflection.
  • Utilize the New York City arts community—especially Chelsea's vibrant gallery scene—for fieldwork, inspiration, and student connection to real-world art spaces.

About You

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, design, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in grades 6–12.
  • A compelling teaching portfolio or website, showcasing curriculum, student work, and project examples.
  • A strong personal artistic practice, with an active portfolio or website.
  • Deep familiarity with contemporary art and design, and art history.
  • Technical proficiency in 2D and 3D media, with a focus on digital platforms.

Additional Information

If hired for this position, the annual salary range is between $72,000 - $112,433. The salary may vary depending on your professional experience and skills.
