Overview

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a Store Manager, Athletic Retail Operations to lead all aspects of the campus retail operation supporting the University of Notre Dame community. This role is responsible for driving sales performance, managing store operations, leading and developing the retail team, and delivering an exceptional customer experience for students, faculty, alumni, and fans.

In addition to overseeing daily store operations, this position leads athletic retail operations across campus venues and events. This includes managing game day retail for football and other athletic events, overseeing stadium booths, kiosks, trailers, and mobile retail locations. The role also supports retail operations for men’s and women’s athletics throughout the year, including pop-up retail locations for sports such as soccer and volleyball, and oversees merchandising and operations for the Hockey Shop location. The Store Manager partners closely with campus Athletics to support NCAA tournaments and major athletic events hosted on campus.

This role is ideal for a hands-on retail leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys creating engaging retail experiences that build school spirit and drive business results.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of store operations including sales performance, merchandising, inventory management, staffing, and customer service
  • Execute business strategies that drive revenue, increase customer satisfaction, and expand store traffic
  • Plan and oversee retail operations for athletic events, including stadium booths, kiosks, trailers, and pop-up retail locations
  • Manage merchandising and operations of athletic retail spaces, including the Hockey Shop
  • Partner with campus Athletics and internal stakeholders to support NCAA tournaments and major campus events
  • Maintain strong visual merchandising standards and product availability
  • Analyze sales trends and performance data to support inventory planning and profitability
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and develop a high-performing retail team
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized store environment while supporting loss prevention and operational standards

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent movement throughout the store and across athletic venues
  • Ability to stand and remain on your feet for extended periods, particularly during game days and large events
  • Frequent lifting and movement of merchandise and retail fixtures
  • Frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of retail leadership experience, preferably in high-volume or event-driven environments
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, Retail Management, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience leading and developing retail teams and supervisors
  • Experience managing multi-location or event-based retail operations
  • Strong business acumen including sales analysis, inventory management, and operational performance
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with campus partners, athletics departments, and corporate teams
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with retail systems, POS technology, and standard business software
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
