Campus is on a mission to maximize access to a world-class education.

At Campus, students come first, and we mean it. Our goal is to enable everyone to have access to a superb education without having to take on student debt. We power online two-year degree programs featuring live, online interactive classes led exclusively by faculty from top-ranking schools in the country (think Princeton, NYU, UCLA, Spelman, and more) – all at community college costs.

We're backed by an investor team that believes deeply in our vision for the future of education -- our investors include Sam Altman (OpenAI), Jason Citron (Discord), Peter Thiel (Founders Fund), Michael Bloomberg (Bloomberg Ventures), Shaquille O'Neal and others who support our vision for the future of education in America.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a driven and adaptable Legal Counsel to join our team. As the second attorney on our team, you will work closely with our Chief Legal Officer and Chief Executive Officer to provide broad legal support across the organization. This is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a fast-paced and growing company where you can have an immediate and lasting impact.

About you:

  • You have 4-6 years experience as an attorney at a tech-focused law firm or in-house at a private company. Experience with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts for an early-stage company required. Experience with employment, equity, data privacy, and/or higher education strongly preferred.
  • You are thoughtful, proactive, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator - able to take complicated legal concepts and distill them into actionable outcomes.
  • You have a high intellectual ceiling, low ego, and impeccable judgment.
  • You're excited not just to cross things off your list but also to build processes to help scale the team to be more organized, efficient, and streamlined.
  • You build strong relationships and operate from a place of openness and adaptability.
  • You're mission-driven and motivated by the idea of growing and contributing your skills across the business as a generalist and learning more about the intersection of higher education and tech.

What you'll do:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and help establish and manage an efficient contracting function.
  • Lead key legal projects across a variety of areas and business functions from initiation to completion.
  • Assist in the creation, review, and operationalizing of various policies and work streams.
  • Translate a range of federal and state mandates and regulations into actionable outcomes, working with teams across the business.
  • Work on board and shareholder items and learn more about our board of trustees.

Location: New York (Hybrid)

What you'll get:

  • Opportunity to work on something that matters – as an early team member, you'll be an integral player in bringing our vision for American higher education to life
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Salary: $150,000 to $180,000
  • Equity: A competitive equity package at a fast-growing startup
  • Unlimited PTO and hybrid work schedule for those in the New York office
