Associate Database Engineers will assist in the implementation and maintenance of database technologies and their related servers, including backups, monitoring, performance and tuning, production deployments and capacity planning.

In addition, Associate DBAs will assist in planning, architecture and implementation of database requirements for all manner of IT projects, and the ongoing support thereof.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation, administration and maintenance of database technologies, including those on-premise and in cloud-based services.

  • Monitor database performance and assist in proactively optimizing for maximum efficiency, reliability and scalability.

  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide a timely resolution to minimize data loss and downtime.

  • Assist in writing scripts for automation, stored procedures and SQL, to support data processing and application development.

  • Assist in supporting disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure high availability of all database technologies.

  • Participate in on-call support in a 24x7 environment.

  • Ability to forge and maintain relationships with other teams throughout an organization.

Work Experience:

  • Familiarity with database monitoring and alerting tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, Solarwinds, MSCOM or other database-adjacent tools.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based services and technologies, such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and the concept of Software As A Service (SaaS).

  • Familiarity with ETL and data migration tools and processes such as Oracle Golden Gate, Fivetran HVR, SQL Server Integration Services and Informatica.

  • Experience with coding and automation in languages like SQL, TSQL, PL/SQL, Python, Windows command line, Powershell and Linux Shell (ksh/ bash).

  • Familiarity with system level administration and application support, including those hosted on Linux, Windows, Openshift, etc.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer related field preferred or equivalent work experience.

Other:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).

  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.

  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.

  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.

  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.
