Sr. Configuration Process Engineer

The Sr. Configuration Process Engineer supports Capella University and Strayer University Financial Aid Management Systems and serves as a liaison between Student Financial Services and Information Technology (IT). This role supports Financial Aid configuration workbooks and processes including updates for aid year rollover and to resolve defects, enhancements, and integrations. The Sr. Configuration Process Engineer acts as a system SME, partnering with IT to assist in developing and testing scripts and automation to support Capella and Strayer financial aid processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver sound business process/functional analysis, consultation, and thought leadership for supported systems.
  • Act as a functional SME and thought partner on initiatives related to systems within Service Operations, including IT projects, new product development, and cross-functional work.
  • Assist in maintaining Financial Aid configuration workbooks, performing annual updates for aid year rollover and intermittent updates for enhancements and defect resolution.
  • Mentor non-senior staff and work with team lead and director to help support in staff development.
  • Partner with IT and business teams on integrations that read from the financial aid configuration workbooks.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to develop and test Groovy scripts for automating financial aid processing.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects to address financial aid and billing-related issues, identifying solutions and enhancement opportunities.
  • Proactively evaluate, develop, implement, and communicate process changes due to system enhancements, upgrades, or new projects.
  • Leverage knowledge of business systems to evaluate and document business processes, driving improvements based on business needs and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation related to all upgrades, enhancements, changes, projects, and processes.
  • Act as a thought partner to evolve team consulting approaches, proactive problem-solving, and overall process improvements.
  • Advocate for configuration and system management best practices, incorporating industry perspectives and assist the team in adherence to these practices.
  • Develop positive working relationships with business partners and colleagues.
  • Lead and consult on efforts to audit, design, test, and maintain workbooks, audit processes, and system configurations.
  • Assist in communication and change management plans to support business process changes.
  • Participate in pre- or post-implementation testing by developing use cases and executing user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Escalate issues and risks to team leadership
  • Provide post-launch support after project implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

  • Deep understanding of Title IV regulations and other financial aid regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent requirements gathering and documentation skills.
  • Strong configuration experience with Oracle Student Financial Planning and PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across multiple levels of management, staff, and faculty.
  • Strong understanding of IT methodologies and project structure.
  • Strong critical thinking, process orientation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and evaluate process improvement opportunities, thinking both tactically and strategically.
  • Strong ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Able to serve as a department representative/advocate on diverse cross-functional teams
  • Experience identifying/initiating, designing/planning and completing system testing, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and system and process validation, both independently and through others.
  • Technical Skills: Excellent knowledge of Oracle Student Financial Planning (SFP) and PeopleSoft (CS) or related products and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Visio).

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 4+ years of Higher Education Financial Aid experience demonstrating functional expertise and ability to positively impact business process and operations.
  • Experience with Oracle Student Financial Planning preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred
