Job Responsibilities
As a Metadata Specialist at Cengage, you will:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine metadata requirements and ensure quality control.
Process and input metadata for hundreds of eBook titles to ensure they are ready for market.
Develop and maintain metadata standards and guidelines to compete successfully in the digital marketplace.
Ensure metadata accuracy and consistency across various platforms and formats.
Apply established strategies to improve the discoverability and accessibility of our digital content.
Troubleshoot and resolve metadata-related issues promptly and efficiently.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
Demonstrable experience in metadata management, preferably in the publishing or educational technology industry.
Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.
Solid understanding of metadata standards.
Creates and maintains publication metadata for products. Builds MARC records as required for new and existing products. Contributes to the development of publication metadata management systems by testing platform fixes and suggesting enhancements. Tests and maintains data integrity in metadata systems and on product.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Creates publication metadata for products according to standards and project requirements.
Creates publication and issue-level metadata in production systems and products.
Develops and coordinates the documentation of information services processes and workflows.
Identifies and recommends potential improvements to team production workflows and tools to improve efficiency and quality.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a field related to Publishing.
Confirmed experience in metadata development.
Knowledge of Windows applications, including spreadsheets and databases.
Knowledge of bibliographic information exchange formats..
Experience with metadata management tools and systems including Paris and Atlas.
Ability to work strictly within deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with no supervision.
Superb communication and collaboration skills.
A proactive and problem-solving approach.

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.
