Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Specialist to join our dynamic team at E-Therapy. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing specialized physical education instruction and support to students with disabilities, helping them develop motor skills, physical fitness, and positive attitudes toward physical activity.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized adaptive physical education programs for students with disabilities, based on their unique needs, abilities, and goals.
- Assess students' motor skills, physical fitness, and movement abilities, using standardized assessment tools and observational methods.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other members of the educational team to integrate adaptive physical education goals and objectives into students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in inclusive physical education settings, adapting activities and equipment to accommodate students' diverse abilities and needs.
- Monitor students' progress and evaluate the effectiveness of adaptive physical education interventions, making adjustments as needed to promote skill development and participation.
- Provide training and consultation to school staff on strategies and techniques for including students with disabilities in physical education activities and promoting inclusive practices.
- Collaborate with community organizations, adaptive sports programs, and other resources to enhance students' access to recreational and physical fitness opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student assessments, progress reports, and other relevant documentation.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, or related field.
- Valid state certification or licensure as an Adaptive Physical Education Specialist (APE) or eligibility for certification.
- Previous experience working as an APE Specialist or physical education teacher in a school or educational setting.
- Knowledge of adaptive physical education principles, practices, and instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices related to physical education and inclusion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, school staff, and related service providers.
- Proficiency in assessment, documentation, and record-keeping.
- Experience in teletherapy or online instruction (preferred).

Physical Requirements (Remote Work):
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods and use a computer keyboard and mouse for typing and navigating software applications. The employee must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with colleagues and clients. Occasionally, the employee may need to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and move around in various areas of the school facility. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents both verbally and in writing. Additionally, the employee must have the physical stamina to supervise and engage with students throughout the school day.
