Job Summary:

As a member of the instructional team, the Substitute Teacher will be responsible for facilitating student learning and supplementing direct instruction with computer-based instruction as needed. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instruction to students when a regular classroom teacher is not available. The Substitute Teacher will implement lesson plans, administer assessments and handle regular daily teaching responsibilities, such as taking attendance. Substitute Teachers will take on additional responsibilities, including the development of lesson plans, communicating with parents and other team members about student progress, and attending team meetings and professional development. In the classroom, the Substitute Teacher will be responsible for communicating knowledge to students in an interesting, stimulating, and effective manner. He or she will use a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources to present material to students. The Substitute Teacher uses a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources to teach content and skills to students in small- or pull-out groups. The Substitute Teacher regularly meets with students to advise and plan for students’ individual learning plans, providing coaching and mentoring in an advisory capacity. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for the delivery of curriculum, assessment, and classroom management that aligns with the school’s vision, mission, and values while also meeting state and national academic standards. The role will be responsible to understand and demonstrate the importance of effective communication with students, school personnel, and parents.

The Substitute Teacher works as a part of the instructional team in order to meet the needs of all students. The building of relationships is a critical component of this learning environment, the team works together to identify student needs that may be barriers to success. Teachers collaborate with team members to analyze different means of meeting student needs and communicates with students, parents, and other team members about student progress and plans for next steps.

Substitute Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement the School curriculum for assigned grade levels and subject;
  • Follow lesson plan provided by main classroom teacher to create cohesive and consistent learning experience for our students;
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintains a positive learning environment;
  • Assist main classroom teachers preparing materials for classroom assignments;
  • Grade essays, research papers, and open-ended response items while providing feedback to students;
  • Engage students to ensure a lively classroom atmosphere;
  • Execute lessons effectively and efficiently using different styles of teaching depending on the content;
  • Assessing students literacy level and design and implement a plan to help students learn more efficiently;
  • Teach students to think critically when studying the literature;
  • Identify and select appropriate instructional materials aligned to content standards;
  • Implement relevant information from research and professional literature on best practices in instruction;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state standards, testing requirements, and graduation requirements within the core content;
  • Analyze formal and informal data and accurately complete student data assessment analysis and provide informative reports regarding student instruction and achievement;
  • Provide small group instruction to students enrolled in an alternative school setting;
  • Keep student attendance;
  • Plan and follow daily classroom instruction activities;
  • Work closely with teachers and other colleagues to develop and build teaching skills;
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, student needs and assessments;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual education service plans for students;
  • Provide essential supervision to students in their education requirements;
  • Administer assessments to ascertain academic needs of students enrolled in an alternative setting;
  • Monitor academic progress of students in their coursework;
  • Monitor student progress towards graduation;
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents, staff, and community as needed;
  • Become proficient in the use of computer based instruction and software;
  • Keep accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, grades, observations, anecdotal records, and other related data;
  • Maintain student records and files in a confidential manner;
  • Manage the learning environment and coach students as an advisor and mentor;
  • Contribute to a culture of professionalism among team members;
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal;

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in related field;
  • Appropriate / valid Teacher certification;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Minimum Two (2) years of teaching experience;
