Desktop Publishing Specialist

We're seeking a Desktop Publishing Specialist to join our in-house creative team at our Zürich office. In this role, you will lead the print production for one of our four products – localise brochures into 35+ languages, prepare print files and do pre-press checks. You will also be creating and formatting diverse print materials adhering to specific design requirements, as well as evaluating and improving our print production processes overall. We are currently implementing a new brand strategy across all marketing touch points, and it is a very exciting time to join the team and help optimise our marketing materials. The ideal candidate should excel in Adobe Creative Suite, possess editorial industry experience, and be passionate about editorial and print design.
Responsibilities
Document Design: Work from, and apply, design templates on various print marketing materials such as brochures, flyers and posters, using Adobe InDesign. Align all materials with brand guidelines.
Project Management: Lead print production processes and coordinate with in-house art directors, copywriters, stakeholders and sales markets to drive print projects and have them delivered on time and with the highest quality.
Printing and Publishing: Communicate with external printers to clarify print specification needs, prepare print files and give final approvals for print. Use your expertise to evaluate and improve our print processes.
Content Layout and Graphics: Format text, images, and visuals for readability and aesthetics. Incorporate and optimise graphics and images.
Font and Image Handling: Ensure that all fonts are embedded, and images are high-resolution. Troubleshoot and address font and image issues that may affect print quality.
Quality Control: Conduct thorough pre-press checks, ensuring that images, text, and layout elements are correctly positioned, sized, and oriented. Verify that resolution and file formats are suitable for printing.
Software Proficiency: Stay updated and use software for layout, typography, and image editing.
Qualifications
- A degree in Desktop Publishing or Graphic Design, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the print industry, preferably in newspaper or magazine publishing.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Apple Software.
- Strong design, layout, and proofreading skills.
- Knowledge of typography, graphic design principles, colour management, and printing techniques.
- Extremely detail-oriented, organised, and deadline-driven.
- Excellent communication skills, teamwork, and creativity.
- Have a Swiss/EU passport or Swiss ‘B’ work permit.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
