Emergence is a VC-backed AI startup that is building multi-agent orchestrators and systems for enterprise deployment in specialized domains. Our technical team includes talents from IBM Watson, Google Brain, Allen Institute for AI, Amazon, Meta, Broadcom, and more. The Emergence team works on bleeding-edge R&D in the area of multi-agent systems, including self-improving autonomous agents, sequential decision-making algorithms, web-automation, multi-step and multi-tool reasoning and planning, and generative AI including NLP and LLMs, and multimodality and LMMs.

We're looking for graduate interns for Summer 2025, who will work with us either remotely or on-site at our NYC headquarters. Interns will collaborate closely with our larger team on designing, developing and deploying real-world multi-agent systems, from creating new algorithms, benchmarks and systems, to deploying optimized cloud-based systems at scale.

The ideal candidate would be

• a Ph.D. student with a strong background in deep learning and sequential decision making, strong interest in applying bleeding edge AI to real-world problems, and with research or industry experience in one or more or:
• Autonomous agents that control web-browsers, desktops, software tools and APIs
• Multi-agent systems and orchestrators
• Sequential decision-making, including reinforcement-learning, planning and multi-step reasoning
• Training of foundation models for sequential decision-making including hands-on familiarity with related training methods (RL-based methods, DPO and related methods)
• Continuous learning and self-improvement

Requirements:

- Accepted or currently enrolled graduate student in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related technical field (PhD students preferred)

- 3+ years of research or industry experience in one of the areas listed above

- Preferred: publications at strong AI conferences (Neurips, ICLR, ICML, ACL, NAACL, EMNLP)
