Job Description Summary:

The Position:

Position General Summary:

The ESOL Coordinator position was established for the purpose/s of providing leadership in the development, coordination, and support of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student instructional support, as well as management of ELL Program protocols and procedures.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Identify program needs for the purpose of providing recommendations of expenditures for resources, equipment, supplies, etc. that will enhance the assigned program

  • Research new material and recommend pilot projects for the purpose of providing the most effective program for the students

  • Prepare a variety of reports and translate written materials (e.g. State ELL plan, State ELL Self- Monitoring report, state ancillary documents, ELL forms, Assessment Data, Parent notifications, student monitoring, etc.) ensuring documentation and compliance with established guidelines

  • Confer with all levels of staff regarding instructional techniques, development of curriculum, supervision guidelines and responsibilities, students’ needs, etc. for the purpose of providing guidance and mentoring

  • Coordinate with testing department to assure ELL students are receiving mandated accommodations for all standardized testing

  • Coordinate meetings with parents, teachers, and administration as needed in order for students to enter or exit the ELL program as mandated

  • Attend district and state ELL related professional development and trainings for the purpose of ensuring compliance and obtaining input to maximize program effectiveness, supporting ELL directives from state

  • Implement curriculum modifications for the purpose of complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines

  • Review all files for the ELL student screener and ensure follow- up with student and families to determine ELL status

  • Secure all required ELL documentation and plans and make required updates throughout year.

  • Complete all required compliance documentation and procedures for each ELL student as per the Department of Education guidelines.

  • Coordinate and administer testing for new ELL students with appropriate screening assessment (Orders tests, administers test one-to-one, scores test, and communicates test scores to parents)

  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others

  • All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in the field of education

  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate Required

  • ESOL Endorsement required

Experience:

  • Minimum three years’ experience working with current laws, regulations, and guidelines related to ELLs in public school

  • Minimum 3 years successful ELL teaching experience required

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish(speaking/writing)

  • Knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office, and Internet Explorer
