The Position:

Position General Summary:

The Specialist, Translation interprets educational and general information in an online setting, through meetings in Zoom, to ensure students and families receive the language support needed to fully engage with FLVS services and staff. As the primary contact for translation-related support, the Specialist assists with reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing, and facilitates conversations that promote understanding and meaningful engagement for all stakeholders.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Interpret and translate spoken communication accurately and efficiently between the source and target languages (e.g., English and Spanish) to support staff, parents, students, and other stakeholders.

  • Provide translation and simultaneous or consecutive interpretation during Zoom meetings (e.g., Welcome Calls, Monthly Calls, teacher meetings, Guidance, ESE, Academic Integrity, etc) to ensure full understanding for all participants.

  • Translate a variety of written materials with speed and accuracy to support classroom instruction, family communication, and engagement with non-English speaking community members.

  • Engage in customer service conversations with all stakeholders using clear, empathetic communication to foster understanding and build trust.

  • Coordinate and manage the use of Language Line Solutions or similar interpretation services to ensure timely and reliable access to language support for all stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain resources that streamline translation services, ensuring efficient and accessible language support for all stakeholders.

  • Utilize ServiceNow to create, update, and close translation support tickets in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in the field of education

  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate

  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)

  • ESOL Endorsement or Certification, preferred

Experience:

  • Three years’ teaching experience; online teaching experience preferred

  • Experience across multiple subject areas and grade levels preferred

Knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office, VSA, ServiceNow, and other web‑based applications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Possess the qualities and skills needed to be a proactive, open‑minded, and positive team player

  • Ability to work with and through people to establish goals, objectives, and action plans

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and effective time management

  • Excellent organizational skills
