Senior Software Engineer
Location: Remote, USA
How you'll contribute to our mission
At Frontline Education, we believe every school thriving. Every community stronger. As a Senior Software Engineer , you will help transform how schools work so every educator and student succeeds. This role is weighted toward hands-on technical delivery: deep full stack ownership, strong architectural judgment, and high code quality, with team-facing leadership as a secondary responsibility rather than a primary one. You'll help build reliable, scalable, customer-centered technology that empowers school systems to operate more effectively while keeping people at the center of every decision.
How you'll drive success
Technical Delivery & Architecture
- Design and implement complex, cross-cutting features end-to-end, from scoping and design through production readiness and monitoring, across the full stack (frontend to backend to data layer).
- Own technical depth on critical modules or services, including performance, reliability, security and production readiness.
- Translate high-level product and architectural requirements into clear, well-scoped engineering plans.
- Dive into legacy codebase internals and make sound modernization trade-offs.
Full Stack & Frontend Modernization
- Build and maintain frontend components in React (this role uses React, not Angular).
- Work fluently across the stack: .NET/C#, REST APIs, Microservices, React frontend, and AWS cloud services.
- Contribute to the team's frontend modernization efforts as a hands-on contributor, not just an advisor.
Product & Cross-Team Partnership
- Partner with your Product Manager to shape technical feasibility and bring a customer-first lens to feature discussions.
- Coordinate with QA, DevOps, and adjacent teams on shared components and deployment practices.
- Flag cross-team dependencies early.
Technical Mentorship
- Lead code reviews and design discussions, sharing technical judgment with the team.
- Mentor engineers through pairing and review while modeling engineering rigor, ownership, and craftsmanship.
Technical Growth & Impact
- Engage in team-level technical discussions on roadmap direction and platform evolution.
- Proactively identify technical debt and propose scalable solutions.
- Balance tactical delivery with long-term architectural considerations.
What you bring to help us grow
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent impact in progressively senior technical roles.
- Demonstrated full stack proficiency: .NET/C#, REST APIs, cloud services, and React.
- Proven ability to deliver complex features end-to-end, with strong individual technical depth.
- Experience with legacy codebases and system design trade-offs.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex or GitHub Copilot to design, develop, test and deliver products
- Clear communication skills, able to translate technical complexity for both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in SaaS, multi-tenant platforms, or large distributed systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, test automation, observability tooling, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
- Track record of improving engineering standards or tooling.
What you'll need to thrive
Level of Influence Primarily technical influence within feature and component scope, with less emphasis on cross-team or team-leadership visibility than a formal tech lead role.
Decision Ownership Make independent technical decisions within your feature area, collaborating with senior engineers and architects on broader trade-offs.
Success Metrics
- Delivery quality, predictability, and system reliability across owned components.
- Depth and quality of full stack technical contributions (React frontend included).
- Effective collaboration with the team, without primary accountability for team output.
