Girls Who Code is seeking a part-time Support Specialist to help launch our innovative new program, the GWC Mentoring Corps. These individuals will be responsible for recruiting and supporting high school and college aged students as they plan and participate in coding events, on-campus college visits, and near-peer mentorship geared toward exploring educational and career paths in technology. The ideal candidates have experience with outreach and marketing, relationship building, event planning, youth development, and working on remote teams. They are detail-oriented, flexible, and able to juggle multiple priorities independently. The Support Specialists will report to the Mentoring Corps Manager and will be expected to collaborate remotely while attending events and meetings with their assigned programs in person.
This is a part-time position based in New York City.
Recruitment and Application Support
-Build relationships with local Clubs and College Loops for recruitment and support purposes
-Draft and send marketing communications to generate interest in the new Mentoring Corps programs
-Secure commitments from College Loops programs in key market(s)
-Collect applications and registrations from local high school Clubs and college aged students to participate in the program
-Track application conversion and propose interventions for low submission or registration rates
Participant Coaching and Support
-Conduct recurring check ins with College Loops participants and high school Clubs Facilitators
-Manage inquiries, questions, and requests from program participants
-Collect and share success stories
Program Execution and Tracking
-Facilitate trainings on programmatic roles, responsibilities, and expectations for all stakeholders
-Update production materials (slide decks, runs of show, etc.) that support successful programmatic events
-Assist Mentoring Corps participants with scheduling virtual and in-person events
-Attend scheduled events and facilitate as needed
-Manage backend systems and user platforms to track deliverables and program completion for stipend fulfillment

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years experience in recruitment, event planning, and project management; interest/experience working with youth and school systems strongly preferred
  • Strong customer-service orientation
  • Attention to detail and an eye for consistency and branding
  • Proficiency with Google Suite strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with marketing tools such as Mailchimp, CampaignMonitor a plus
  • Able to comfortably adapt and problem-solve in a diverse and dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Computer Science experience is not required
  • Passion for our mission to close the gender gap in technology fields through a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
