Position Title: Virtual Special Education Teacher - 11 month position

Position Location: Remote (Multiple positions available for 2026-27 School Year; serving Ohio, Michigan, New Mexico and additional states)

Position Summary

The Virtual Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in an online learning environment. This position requires innovation and flexibility in delivering services that ensure access to the general curriculum while addressing each student’s unique academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs as defined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).

The Virtual Special Education Teacher will collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators to design and implement engaging, differentiated instruction that meets state standards and IEP goals. The teacher ensures compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), state regulations, and Graduation Alliance policies.

Job Responsibilities

The Virtual Special Education Teacher is responsible for:

  • Deliver Virtual Instruction – Provide differentiated online instruction using digital platforms and tools.
  • Provide Targeted Interventions – Deliver small-group and one-on-one instruction in literacy, numeracy, writing, and social-emotional skills.
  • Implement IEPs – Write, update, and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA and state regulations.
  • Monitor Progress – Collect and analyze progress data to guide instruction and evaluate performance.
  • Facilitate IEP Meetings – Conduct virtual meetings with families, students, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with Staff – Partner with general education teachers and service providers to implement accommodations and modifications.
  • Communicate with Families – Maintain regular communication to share progress and support strategies.
  • Support Assessments – Assist with state testing and ensure accommodations are implemented.
  • Maintain Compliance Records – Document services, progress, and compliance while protecting student confidentiality.
  • Manage Virtual Classroom – Use effective engagement and classroom management strategies to support participation.

Qualifications:

Ideal Virtual Special Education Teacher will have experience working with students with disabilities in a remote environment and with varying levels of abilities and needs in a school based learning environment, in addition to:

  • State specific Certification in the area of Special Education
  • Minimum BS or BA from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated ability and passion to work with students with exceptional needs
  • Demonstrated professionalism that displays effective judgment and professional integrity
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a leadership and guiding role that enhances student achievement toward educational goals
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Working knowledge of web-based applications for online learning, including learning environments and web-based development tools.
  • Positive attitude, grit and a desire to go above and beyond
