About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious individual to join our team as Deputy Editor (Biomedical Engineering) for our flagship journal, Advanced Science. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated Advanced portfolio ambassador with an extensive global network in biomedical engineering, driving strategic initiatives that bridge groundbreaking research communities and shape how interdisciplinary science is published and shared worldwide. The Deputy Editor actively participates in the peer review process and decision-making for submitted manuscripts while ensuring adoption of best practices and the highest ethical standards in publishing.

How you will make an impact:

  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives to grow Wiley's Advanced Portfolio within biomedical engineering globally. Leverage your network, knowledge of the subject area and its development, and desk research skills to commission high-quality papers and build collaborative relationships with leading researchers to enhance content quality and brand influence.
  • Represent Wiley and the physical sciences portfolio at conferences and through in-person and virtual outreach activities at universities and research institutes.
  • Collaborate with the global editorial team across departments to develop the journal portfolio and to manage manuscripts submitted from related subject areas for Advanced Science. Contribute to the editorial evaluation, peer review, and decision-making for manuscripts submitted to one or more journals.
  • Collaborate with managers and colleagues to establish a team culture of trust, respect, and high performance.

What we are looking for:

  • A PhD in biomedical engineering (preferred) or related fields (molecular biology, biomedicine, biophysics, biochemistry) with an excellent research background and a strong understanding of recent trends and developments.
  • 2+ years of post-PhD work experience (Post-doctoral, Academic, Publishing) is required. International experience is highly desirable.
  • Subject matter expertise in all fields of biomedical engineering, biomaterials, nanomedicine and/or related fields.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a flexible and innovative approach to problems and a focus on defining and achieving outcomes.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting and achieve results through personal influence and engagement.
  • A self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible approach with outstanding organizational, efficiency, and time management skills and an excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal).
  • A keen interest in science and science communication and a strong desire to advocate for innovations in publishing and open research.
  • Confidence to present and represent the journal portfolio at conferences and through institute visits, nurture existing contacts, and develop new networks, including the willingness to travel.
  • Mindset with ability to identify opportunities and convert strategic visions into actionable plans.
  • A strong understanding of scientific publishing, including commissioning and the peer-review process. Prior experience in publishing, editorial, or science communication experience and understanding of Open Access workflows and Open Research is highly desirable.
