Job Description

Long-Term Substitutes (LTS) provide instructional coverage for a teacher absent for an extended period. The LTS will work the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his/her absence. The LTS is assigned to KIPP St. Louis Schools based on school needs and is assigned to a school for six to twelve weeks before being reassigned to another school if needed. This is a temporary position and is based on the school’s district coverage needs.

Position Type: Full-time (Part-Time hours are available), Non-exempt, Hourly, Temporary (as needed per school district needs)

On a day-to-day basis, you can look forward to the following:

  • Teach a challenging college preparatory curriculum that addresses the current academic levels of students, is standards-aligned, and promotes critical thinking

  • Demonstrate knowledge of grade-level standards, benchmarks, and curriculum as well as proficiency in lesson planning and unit design

  • Design assessments and use data daily and weekly to drive instructional practices and provide students with feedback on their progress; regularly grade student work

  • Enforce and uphold school’s values, policies, and culture

  • Engage in frequent and open collaboration and communication with colleagues around lesson planning, instructional observations, and student data

  • Seek out and respond to coaching to increase capacity to run an effective classroom that promotes high levels of student achievement

  • Communicate regularly with families about the progress of students and remain available to students and families in the evening

  • Build strong relationships and positive rapport with students, families, and colleagues

  • Actively participate in weekly staff development activities and meetings

  • Other duties as assigned by the school leadership team

Physical Demands/Mental Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Frequently positions self to interact with students inside and outside of the classroom

  • Must be able to observe students inside the classroom and school building, as well as outside

  • Daily operation of a computer and classroom equipment

  • Occasional moderate lifting

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours of duty

  • Maintain emotional control under stress

  • Interprets policy, procedures, and data

  • Occasionally endure inclement weather conditions to provide for student safety

Qualifications

What you bring to the table:

  • A high school diploma or GED and Missouri substitute certification (REQUIRED)

  • Missouri Substitute Certification or willingness to acquire certification ASAP (REQUIRED)

  • Bachelor’s degree and certification in Missouri (preferred)

  • A passion for teaching in the city of St. Louis

  • Dedication to helping children grow and learn

Additional Information

What we bring to the table:

  • $200/day for a substitute with Missouri Substitute certification.

  • Please note that this position does not include paid holidays or pay for extended school breaks such as, fall break, winter break, spring break, or unexpected snow days/school closure days. Pay is according to the days and hours worked by the substitute.

  • Benefits: For full-time substitutes only. If consecutively employed during a probationary period of 90 days, team members will receive the option to elect our substitute gold benefits package consisting of our $0 deductible in medical, dental, and vision insurance.
