Job Description
The Middle School After-School Activity Specialist and Group Leader roles are a part-time positions working directly with middle school students in our after school program. The Activity Specialist will teach a weekly class in a specific content area (ie. Dance, Step, Sports, Art, or Chess) in our after school program designed to improve youth development, social-emotional learning, and academics. The Group Leader will supervise a group of 15 students. The Activity Specialist and Group Leader will report to the Program Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing high quality activity in area of expertise (dance, art, music, etc.)
- Create lesson plans for each program session that age appropriate and engaging
- Engage with students in a manner that is supportive and aids in bringing excitement to the activities
- Provide supervision and ensure safety of students at all times
- Work closely with staff and leaders to support high-quality programs that are responsive to students and families
- Adhere to the rules and regulations set by DYCD and DOH
- Follow schedule provided by the Program Director/Education Specialist at all times
- Maintain accurate attendance, evaluations, and incident reports as required
- Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops as assigned by the Program Director
- Communicate with students, parents, KIPP NYC staff and community stakeholders in a polite and respectful manner
- Present as a mentor/role model to KIPP NYC students by modeling appropriate behavior and professionalism at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director
Qualifications
- Zest, grit, self-control, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor
- Specialized skills and expertise in one or more discipline or content area to lead and implement an activity
- High school degree, or High school equivalency exam required with at least 2 years of experience working with children under 13 or Associate’s Degree
- Communicate effectively with students and adults

Compensation:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive hourly rate of $18/hour for Group Leaders and $28.69/hour for new Activity Specialists.
