In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx, with a vision that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. Today, our network consists of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive program to support our students and alumni in choosing and preparing for the educational and career paths that fit their goals and sense of purpose. Job Description

Position Overview
The Program Director will develop, manage, and evaluate a middle school afterschool program that combines and enhances academics, youth development, and social-emotional learning. S/he will jointly report to the Regional Director of Afterschool Programs and an onsite co-supervisor.

The Program Director will be responsible for the overall program management and will work directly with school leadership to ensure alignment and impact. In partnership with school and program staff, the Program Director will:

  • Hire, orient, train, support, and supervise afterschool program staff
  • Develop engaging programing in collaboration with school leadership and education specialist
  • Create alignment and communication between school-day and afterschool staff
  • Execute family and community engagement events and serve as a point of contact for families
  • Ensure implementation of high-quality programs that are responsive to students and families
  • Gather all required program data and provide reporting as necessary.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with others in the KIPP NYC network and stakeholders
  • Implement and ensure staff understanding of compliance regulations set by DOH and DYCD
  • Develop and implement a vision to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Manage and oversee site budget including purchases, reporting spending, budget modifications, etc. with support from Finance Department
  • Facilitate Student recruitment and retention, ensuring the program stays ahead of the ROP target
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Afterschool Programs and Onsite Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 3-4 years of experience in education and social services with children under the age of 13 years old
  • One year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field work
  • Experience with OCFS School Age Child Care Regulations
  • Successful experience developing, managing, and monitoring large, goal-oriented programs
  • Skills to think strategically, translate plans into action, and exhibit excellent judgment in decision-making
  • Ability to self-direct, prioritize goals, and exhibit flexibility to drive results
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with keen attention to detail
  • Experience in meeting rigorous goals through the management, leadership, and development of adults
  • Experience in the selection, training, and supervision of personnel
  • Capacity to build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with school leaders, staff, students, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders
  • Zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor

Additional Information

Compensation and Benefits:

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $65,000-$78,000 for the After School Program Director role. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band.
