Job Description
Position Overview:
The Director of Operations is critical to the successful and efficient running of KIPP NYC schools. The Director of Operations ensures the implementation and maintenance of clear operational systems that allow the principal and teachers to focus on students and families. The Director of Operations will therefore be an individual who embraces innovation and continuous improvement, is willing to get his/her hands dirty, and relishes the challenge of finding ways to work smarter and more cost-efficiently.
The Director of Operations reports to the Principal and manages the school Operations team. He/she/they is a member of the school leadership team, works collaboratively with teachers and families, oversees the financial management of a multi-million budget, and acts as the primary interface with the KIPP NYC Shared Services Team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Management: Supervises the Office Manager, helps address general office and administrative needs, and ensures the smooth operation of the administrative office, including mailings, attendance reporting, office machine maintenance, etc. The DOO is a collaborative member of the School Leadership Team and the regional KIPP NYC Operations Team.
Student Recruitment: Manages student recruitment, admissions applications, registration, and waitlist and engages new families in school activities.
External Relations: Acts as point person in hosting visitors for school tours and community presentations.
Facilities: Manages and oversees the school’s facility maintenance, design, and strategic development.
Finance and Purchasing: Assists Principal and KIPP NYC Director of Finance to create and oversee the school’s budget and finances; oversees school-based purchasing and applies the KIPP NYC culture of thrift to all purchasing. Ensures adherence to the school’s fiscal policy and procedures.
Logistics (school, trips, and events): Plans and coordinates logistics for out-of-state multi-day end-of-year grade level events, and other logistically complex activities and events, including school-wide family events, concerts, and advancement ceremonies.
Technology: Oversees the strategic procurement and maintenance of technology equipment in partnership with the KIPP NYC Technology Team.
Student Information and Reporting: Oversees the integrity of the school’s student information system; and coordinates with KIPP NYC Shared Services Team concerning all data analysis and reporting.
Compliance: Assists the KIPP NYC Shared Services Team to ensure school-wide compliance with health and safety laws, teacher certification and fingerprinting, city and state education mandates, and all federal and state workplace regulations.
Human Resources: Assists the KIPP NYC HR Team to ensure that school-based employees receive timely and accurate payroll and benefits.

At least 3 years experience managing a small team and multiple complex projects
Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the KIPP mission with school based experience strongly preferred

Compensation and Benefits:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,829 - $142,270 per year. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role, NYS initial or professional certification, and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP NYC will evaluate a candidate’s years of experience, certification, and longevity at the point of hire to determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale.
