JOB DESCRIPTION
The Academic Business Development Associate plays a crucial part in driving the growth of our business by identifying and nurturing new client relationships, focusing primarily on school districts and/or state education offices including colleges and universities. This role’s key responsibility is generating new business opportunities and leads for our Account Executives team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent communication skills and a passion for sales and business growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify New Business Opportunities
- Market research: Research and identify potential clients, industries, and companies
- Product and service knowledge: maintain a comprehensive understanding of our products/services to effectively articulate value propositions
Lead Generation
- Prospect for and quality leads through cold calls, emails, networking, and social media
- Qualify Leads: Track and report contact activities in CRM to pass along to appropriate Account Executive.
Client Relationship Management
- Build relationships: Cultivate relationships with potential customers, business partners, and end-users
- Schedule and conduct meetings with potential clients to understand their needs and present appropriate solutions
Sales Support
- Develop strategies with the Director of Marketing for Academic and the Sales Manager to close deals
- Assist in the preparation of sales presentations, proposals and contracts.
Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all sales activities and prospect interactions in CRM system.
- Track and report on key performance metrics and sales targets.
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to the development and execution of business development strategies and plans.
- Identify areas for improvement and suggest new initiatives to drive growth.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field required.
- 1-3 years of experience in business development sales or a related role.
- Interest in language or multilingualism is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Proven experience as a Business Development Associate or similar role
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Goal-oriented mindset with a passion for exceeding targets
- Superior business and negotiation skills
- High level of motivation and a results-driven approach
- Ability and willingness to travel to trade shows and conferences as needed.
- Knowledge of market research, sales and negotiating principles
- Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
