What is this role about?
We are seeking a dynamic Sales Director with strong leadership skills, strategic vision, and proven business acumen to drive sustainable growth in a competitive market environment. The ideal candidate will be adept at making region-specific decisions, managing complex situations, and inspiring teams to consistently deliver high performance.
Intervention markets are defined as English-speaking countries outside the USA, following national curricula, where the main opportunity for McGraw Hill programmes would be in Intervention and Supplemental products, with a specific focus on Direct Instruction.
This position will be responsible for overseeing and driving McGraw Hill’s sales strategy and growth across existing and new Intervention markets. The Sales Director’s primary objective will be to lead the sales team into achieving sales targets, build strong customer relationships and drive business growth. The individual will be responsible to develop and implement sales strategies, analyse market behaviours, oversee daily sales operations, meet revenue targets and ensure the team delivers on business expectations, whilst upholding McGraw Hill’s values.
What you will be doing:
Sales Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve business objectives.
- Identify new business opportunities and markets for growth.
- Set sales goals and performance benchmarks for the team.
- Explore sales and business models to drive growth, adoption, enterprise, commercial models etc.
Team Management
- Recruit, train, and mentor sales representatives.
- Monitor team performance and provide ongoing coaching and support.
- Performance manage sales representatives and align roles with a growth-oriented strategy.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and partners.
- Address client inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Optimise relationships with school accounts and districts and manage channel strategy in a way that ensures strong end user experience, margin improvement and digital platform utilisation.
Market and Competitor Analysis
- Conduct market research to understand industry trends and customer needs.
- Analyse competitor activities and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Provide actionable insights to improve sales effectiveness.
- Monitor regulatory environment and turn it into actionable strategies for business growth.
Sales Reporting and Forecasting
- Prepare and present regular sales reports to senior management.
- Track sales metrics and analyse performance data.
- Develop accurate sales forecasts and budgets.
Product & Product Development
- Ensure sales team is trained and enabled in presenting product features to customers and driving adoption wins.
- Collect information on user feedback from markets and build cohesive and viable product adaptation plans to drive growth., in coordination with the International sales leadership, Head of Strategy, CoE and the US.
- Build learning tools that enhance the efficacy of products across markets e.g. correlations guides to national curriculum, digital certifications etc.
Best Practice
- Develop scalable, best practice strategies across markets and customize as/if necessary.
- Build global advocacy for DI and I&S products.
- Build supporting Professional Learning services and customize by market, as/if necessary. Build a global network of trainers operating in viable commercial models.
- Build global campaigns, product launch & campaign plans, Professional Learning Services, advocacy, marketing GTM etc.
- Build a repository of assets, campaigns, strategies for global use and customize by market as/if necessary.
Academic Support & Marketing
- Cooperate with the I&S Academic Consultant and the I&S Marketing unit to build a consistent universe of market coverage, I&S product campaigns, advocacy, new market exploration etc.
Core markets
- Co-operate with the Sales Director, International Markets to drive enablement and support for I&S opportunities in core international markets.
- Share strategies, enablement, support, advocacy etc. with the core markets’ leadership.
What you need to be considered:
- 10+ years overall experience & 5+ years Industry specific experience.
- Proven experience as a sales director or in a similar senior sales leadership role.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and market trends.
- Proficiency in CRM software and sales tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in business, education or related field (preferred).
