UX/UI Designer Mobile apps
Moodle with us!
You've probably heard of Moodle – the world's most popular learning platform, used by over 60% of the world's universities, as well as countless schools and companies. Our mission is to empower educators and learners worldwide, ensuring accessible and engaging learning experiences. Our Moodle Apps team plays a key role in this, bringing innovation and usability to mobile learning. As we continue to enhance our mobile offerings, we’re looking for a talented UX/UI Designer to help shape the future of Moodle mobile apps.
About this role
The Moodle Apps team is looking for a UX/UI Designer with experience in cross-platform mobile application design and a strong understanding of the complete customer lifecycle for cloud services.
In this role, you will play a key part in shaping a cohesive and seamless user experience for the Moodle mobile app. Your work will involve not only designing intuitive and accessible interfaces but also closely collaborating with our premium customers to understand their unique needs, challenges, and use cases. By gathering insights from their feedback, you will help improve the app experience in ways that benefit both individual users and larger organizations relying on Moodle Apps for their learning environments.
We are also looking for someone with strong graphic design skills, as part of your role will involve ensuring a visually compelling and consistent brand presence across all aspects of Moodle Apps. This includes contributing to the app’s visual language, look & feel, and UI design decisions, ensuring alignment with Moodle’s design system and overall brand identity.
Additionally, you will be designing for a fast-feedback, high-scale product, where your work will have visible and measurable impact on thousands of users. You will also be contributing to a product that directly generates revenue, helping sustain Moodle’s mission as an open-source platform for education.
What your new job can look like
As a UX/UI Designer in the Moodle Apps team, you will:
- Be the voice of the customer, advocating for our users and ensuring their needs and pain points directly inform the product roadmap.
- Engage with customer challenges across all stages of the user journey, with a particular focus on understanding the needs of our premium customers and their learners.
- Join a team that values continuous learning and iteration, using both qualitative insights and available data to refine and enhance the user experience.
- Document your approach, research findings, and design decisions, following common standards and processes defined by the design team.
- Manage, document, and maintain our Figma libraries as part of our continuous effort to build and refine our design system.
- Collaborate closely with developers to ensure that every improvement or new feature is backed by thoughtful UX and solid design principles.
- Work alongside UX team members and designers across different teams, keeping the feedback loop active, exchanging insights, and aligning design decisions to ensure a cohesive user experience.
- Adapt and translate web-based functionalities into a seamless and consistent mobile experience, ensuring Moodle Apps align with the broader Moodle ecosystem.
- Provide UX support and feedback to the team on usability, accessibility, and best practices, ensuring high-quality solutions and creating prototypes that promote a polished and well-crafted UI.
Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills
We’re looking for a UX/UI Designer who has:
- Experience designing multi-device and responsive applications – from Android to iOS, and across various screen sizes, from smartphones to tablets.
- A strong understanding of design principles, particularly for touch interfaces, mobile usability, and gesture-based interactions.
- Experience working with established design libraries such as Material Design and Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines (HIG).
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and within agile methodologies.
- A strong design portfolio showcasing case studies that are result-oriented, demonstrating iterations, problem-solving, and impact.
- A user-first mindset, ensuring that every design decision is driven by real user needs and usability principles, while effectively communicating insights and advocating for users within the team.
- Experience working with Figma, as it is our primary design tool.
- A creative approach to problem-solving and a willingness to contribute to a team with high design standards.
- A collaborative and friendly attitude, thriving in a dynamic and globally distributed team where communication plays a key role.
- Proficiency in English (fluent) – while you will primarily work with a Barcelona and Spain-based team, Moodle is an international company with team members around the world.
Nice to Have (but not essential)
- Advanced experience with Figma, including libraries management, prototyping, and advanced workflows.
- Familiarity with technical concepts and code, allowing effective communication with developers (e.g., understanding front-end principles beyond just HTML & CSS).
- Experience using research and collaboration tools such as Dovetail, Miro, Lookback, Jira, and Confluence.
- Familiarity with Moodle as a user, or experience with EdTech and e-learning platforms.
Why Join Us?
- Work at a place that genuinely improves the world.
- Be part of a team that truly believes in the organization's mission (weird, huh?).
- Join a small, fun, and sociable team that makes work enjoyable.
- Enjoy full flexibility – come into the office (centrally located in Barcelona) or work remotely, it’s your choice.
- Be part of one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world.
- Learn something new every day and benefit from your own learning and development budget.
- Work in an inclusive and welcoming environment where diversity is embraced—be yourself, express yourself, and dress however makes you feel comfortable.
- Receive a competitive salary as part of a company that values your contributions.
