Job Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

This role is a 2-year project end date position. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Information Architect: Ontology and Strategy. As an Information Architect: Ontology and Strategy you will play a crucial role in creating the Scholastic Knowledge Graph. This role is essential in ensuring that we have meaningful topical and educational standard relationships in our content, and that the connections can be programmatically generated. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining the knowledge graph, that meets the needs of our authors, platform teams, and students and teachers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive strategy for the Platform Content Knowledge Graph, including the creation of topic taxonomies and ontologies.

  • Centralize the management of taxonomies, vocabularies, ontologies in a vocabulary management tool, ensuring standardization and interoperability with existing Scholastic technologies.

  • Develop guidelines and build measurement frameworks that set quality standards for semantic models, content tagging, and standards alignment.

  • Lead evaluation of AI initiatives to create training sets for future automation of Topic Extraction and suggested tagging of content.

  • Ensure integration of Knowledge Graph with Search for powering discovery, including facets and filters.

  • Manage the alignment of educational standards to Scholastic content while developing processes and opportunities to influence through automation and scale

  • Develop and refine related data governance and processes.

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrable experience in developing mappings and transformation processes to take data from a relational paradigm into a knowledge graph environment.

  • Experience utilizing graph data in a machine learning environment.

  • Ability to quickly understand complex processes and communicate them in simple language.

  • Experience creating and communicating technical requirements to engineering teams.

  • Ability to communicate to senior leadership (Director and VP levels).

  • Experience working in Generative AI, prompt engineering, evaluation, annotation, and/or content labeling and analysis.

  • Knowledge of Semantic Web technologies (RDF/s, OWL), query languages (SPARQL) and validation/reasoning standards (SHACL, SPIN).

  • Knowledge of open-source and commercial ontology engineering editors (e.g. Protege, TopQuadrant products, PoolParty).

  • Experience in educational technology, educational publishing, or media.

Experience: 10 years of relevant work experience working in knowledge management, ontology and/or taxonomy roles.

Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science, Information Systems, Linguistics or equivalent professional experience.
