Job Description:

The Senior Director, Business Communications will lead a Communications team responsible for keeping the Scholastic School Reading Events’ 2500+ dispersed employee base informed of business objectives and activities and creating a connected Employee Experience.

As a Communications leader, you will strategize and plan with a multi-functional Management Committee. The role fosters a standard of excellence for Communications supporting Sales and Customer Success, Operations, Finance, Product and Merchandising, and Marketing and Customer Experience teams, emphasizing supporting the divisional President of Scholastic Reading Events.

The Senior Director, Business Communications will strengthen the internal communications

infrastructure and content approach. The position is additionally responsible for external visibility for organization leaders, and collaboration with the corporate communication team on public relations and reputational management.

Responsibilities:

1. Engage directly with senior leaders and develop high-quality internal communications driving the understanding of business objectives, including running quarterly town hall meetings, building annual operating plans and board presentations.

2. Connect employees to business-critical information by developing clear written and video communications that keep employees engaged and working on strategy.

3. Work with the content management system (Sharepoint for intranet) and the team’s email distribution tool to effectively upload/manage/distribute content. Optimizing tactics through surveys and feedback.

4. Coordinate with the corporate communications team to ensure syndication of key messages across the broader Scholastic organization.

5. Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for Scholastic School Reading Event’s reputation.

6. Support the profiles of leaders across key press features, speaking engagements, social media profiles, gala and industry events

7. Identify opportunities for management that gets Scholastic recognized within their respective disciplines, keeping Scholastic School Reading events top of mind as a leading company and attractive to top talent.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The ability to think creatively and deliver engaging solutions to communications that describe complex issues in simple language.
  • Strong communication (written, verbal and interpersonal) skills, including tact, diplomacy, and ability to influence senior executives.
  • A team player who will implement initiatives effectively and motivate others to carry out their work.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and with corporate partners.

Track record of success in delivering high quality work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Compensation Range:

Annual Salary: 165,000 - 180,000
