Each year Scholastic Book Fairs, in partnership with schools across the country, hosts more than 127,000 book-sale events that give more than 35 million students and their families access to thousands of affordable and educational products, helping foster a lifelong love of reading. We are currently in search of 1st Shift Distribution Supervisor to lead our local distribution team.

Qualified candidates will be able to plan, schedule, direct and execute the day-to-day distribution activities of a branch in the Book Fair Organization. Evaluate and asses the team to ensure adherence to company standards and policies, and optimal performance. This candidate will support our mission to encourage reading and promote lifelong learning, and demonstrate our values of caring and respect for all people. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for achieving regional distribution budgeted goals, including metrics, efficiency, and compliance.
- Manage efficient and constant communication flow between Sales, Customer Care, Operations and outsource providers.
- Responsible for the recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training, developing, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating employees (drivers) in the Branch, with assistance of the Branch Operations Manager, in a timely and objective manner.
- Oversee vendor management of outsource providers, including courier services.
- Oversee fair routing to confirm timely and accurate deliveries of book fairs, additional customer orders and pick-ups while maintaining distribution costs.
- Oversee truck specifications and preventive care program of all vehicles to assure minimal maintenance costs and safety of the vehicles.
- Ensure proper record keeping for drivers (DOT, etc.) and report of mileage and fuel for State Fuel and Use Taxes.
Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or GED Certificate required, college degree preferred.
2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role.
3. Previous background in fleet dispatching and routing internal fleet desired.
4. Experience/knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations – DOT and OSHA regulations and compliance required.
5. Prior experience with a sales/service distribution organization preferred
6. Ability to analyze, develop, initiate, and implement plans and strategies to achieve goals.
7. Strong computer skills; ability to navigate through the internet, MS Office and email preferred.
8. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and direct associates.
9. Ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines.
10. Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs., push/pull up to 300 lbs., climb ladders without assistance. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
11. Ability to work over-time and weekends as needed.
12. Strong team player and the ability to get along with co-workers.
13. Good verbal/written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to read.
14. Forklift experience a plus. (drug screening required for Forklift certification)
15. Valid drivers license & acceptable motor vehicle report. (If operating company vehicle –motor vehicle record check and drug screening)
16. Commercial Drivers License a plus. (FMCSR regulations would apply)
