Job Description:

NOTE: This role is based in New York City and encourages a minimum of two days per week in the SoHo office. Some roles or teams may require additional in-office attendance if the essential functions of the role require it.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Scholastic is seeking a Junior Designer to join its Trade Art Department and support day-to-day design operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the design and production of a limited number of titles per year, working closely with art department leadership.

  • Route passes to Editorial and Production.

  • Scan art.

  • Relay notes to illustrators and designers.

  • Help find illustrators that are a good manuscript and market fit for new titles.

  • Pre-flight releases.

  • Release files.

  • Coordinate with freelance designers.

  • Support with reprint edits when needed.

  • Support with building schedules when needed.

  • Support with coding invoices when needed.

  • Support with building Launch, Sales Conference, Catalog, and Art Management presentations.

  • Manage Outside purchases from end-t0-end.

  • Manage the proof process on select titles.

  • Respond to timely requests from Marketing and Sales.

  • Attend bi-weekly production status meetings for your projects, as well as weekly staff meetings.
