What are Trust Fund Positions?
Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. OVERVIEW

This position is located in the Office of the Director, National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The NMAAHC is the national museum for the study and exposition of African American history and culture. Its primary purposes are to acquire, maintain and preserve objects which document social, cultural, political, military, technological and scientific developments associated with African Americans in the United States; to conduct scholarly research designed to make significant contributions to the body of knowledge in the field of African American history; to publish findings for both scholarly and general audiences; and to interpret historical developments through public exhibits and programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Museum Specialist is primarily responsible for managing projects, writing materials and reports, and developing partnerships and collaborations within the Office of the Director.

In this position you will:

• Lead special projects assigned by the Director and senior staff.
• Prepare, edit and coordinate distribution of internal communications for the Director and Director's office.
• Research, analyze, discuss and develop museum-focused solutions.
• Develop strategies for various projects and work coming into the Director's office at the request of agencies, special partnerships, and collaborations.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for this position, experience is needed that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

In addition to the basic qualification requirement above, candidates must have demonstrated experience:

• managing projects and developing written reports and other materials for executive leadership; and
• assisting in the development of partnerships and collaborations for a museum or similar cultural entity.
