Role Description
We are hiring a hands-on Financial Controller to own accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls as Subject scales toward its next phase of growth. This person will partner closely with the CEO, VP of Operations, Chief of Staff, and our fractional CFO to ensure accuracy, visibility, and discipline across all financial processes.
This is not a maintenance role. This is a builder role.
The ideal candidate is detail-obsessed, operationally strong, comfortable working long hours when needed, and excited to be part of a company where finance is deeply embedded in day-to-day decision-making.
Success in this role is simple - hit 95%+ gross and net burn accuracy every month. Keep us on target, on plan, and give executive leadership confidence your forecasting is extraordinarily precise.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close in partnership with our external accounting firm, ensuring timely, accurate financials and clean general ledger management.
- Lead cash flow forecasting and burn control, building rolling forecasts and partnering with leadership to proactively manage runway and operating leverage. We want 95%+ gross and net burn accuracy every month expectation (and target 98%+)
- Prepare board-ready financial reporting, including variance analysis, KPI dashboards (ARR, cash flow, vendor spend), and actionable insights for decision-making.
- Establish and strengthen internal controls, expense approvals, and scalable accounting processes to support rapid growth and audit readiness.
- Lead the Company’s first audit, managing auditors, tax coordination, and fundraising diligence while ensuring clean documentation and reporting discipline.
- Oversee payroll and routine HR finance operations, including compensation tracking, equity administration support, benefits coordination, and related compliance.
Qualifications
- 6–10+ years in accounting or finance roles
- Startup or high-growth company experience preferred
- CPA strongly preferred
- Experience managing audits and multi-entity structures
- Strong systems experience (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Rippling, etc.)
- Comfortable working in a fast-changing environment
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
