Location:

Lavinia Group is a virtual company. We seek to hire the best person for the position, regardless of location. The location for this position is flexible. The majority of the time this position will work from home; however, this role will require limited travel to company retreats and client meetings as needed.

The Opportunity

The Associate Director of Curriculum ensures Lavinia Group’s content meets the organization’s high standards for inquiry-driven, results-based, culturally responsive literacy curricula.

Reporting to the Director of Curriculum, the Associate Director contributes to the Lavinia Group’s content development, including supporting with vision setting and curriculum development, reviewing and giving feedback on units and lessons, writing lessons and units, and developing supplemental materials, as needed. The Associate Director of Curriculum will play a critical role in managing the content development process, with a big emphasis on content review and feedback to curriculum writers. This role is an exciting opportunity for a skilled curriculum developer to contribute to Lavinia Group’s organizational mission to provide a high-quality curriculum in an effort to close the opportunity gap across the country. The Math Curriculum is an 18-24 month project.

What You’ll Do

Content Development

  • Execute the vision of Lavinia Group's content development strategic plan by overseeing content development for a set of grades, including writing, reviewing, revising, and editing content for Lavinia Group’s K-5 Math curriculum
  • Responsible for holding an incredibly high bar for curriculum quality
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of instructional design and pedagogy
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of the Common Core Standards for Mathematics, including the Standards for Mathematical Practice
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of research related to effective mathematics instruction, including cognitively guided instruction
  • Collaborate within and across teams to develop curriculum and curriculum-support content
  • Develop and support the development of curriculum resources with content and pedagogy of the highest quality and reflective of Lavinia Group’s core guiding principles
  • Actively monitor and incorporate feedback to continuously improve the product
  • Demonstrate an editorial sensibility, including ability to:
    • write and edit using precise and clear language
    • proofread for accuracy and expression
    • apply constructive feedback locally and globally in a timely manner
    • implement revisions to project design and content
    • produce consistent content and quality across products

Project Execution

  • Support and develop curriculum writers
  • Complete the appropriate scope and sequence of work within the timeline required at each phase
  • Communicate clearly within and across teams
  • Exemplify a mindset that values an iterative cycle of ideation, thought partnering, prototyping, drafting, development, review, and revision
  • Work independently in a remote environment
  • Adhere to a task and deadline-driven workflow

Qualifications

  • Deep content knowledge in elementary and/or middle school Math with a Bachelors or Masters degree in an associated content area
  • Superior writing and communication skills with demonstrated writing ability (writing sample required)
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Content knowledge in the area of History, Social Studies or Science a plus
  • Experience with teaching multilingual learners and diverse learner populations preferred
  • Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards desired
  • Experience leading individuals or teams
  • Previous experience as a curriculum writer or developer

Compensation range for this position: $100,000 - $130,000

As part of our commitment to pay equity, new hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the salary band minimum and the salary band midpoint depending on qualifications, location, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
