Purpose

Maintain and elevate the reliability and safety of our San Bernardino, CA school transportation fleet through expert diagnostics, timely repairs, and rigorous preventive maintenance.

Impact Areas

  • Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair systems including steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and oil/temperature/gas regulating components in line with Federal, State/Provincial, and local regulations.
  • PM Excellence: Perform test drives during Preventative Maintenance to investigate driver-reported concerns; conduct post-service test drives to verify completed repairs.
  • Major Workflows: Assist Tech I’s with engine, transmission, and differential rebuilds as assigned by the manager.
  • Quality Gate: Arrange and obtain inspections/approvals for all major repairs before vehicle release.
  • Continuous Assessment: Identify and report additional maintenance or repairs, including items requiring higher-qualification technicians.
  • Mobile Response: Execute road calls and complete on-the-road repairs as assigned.

Operations & Compliance

  • Perform work assigned by the manager or lead when supervised.
  • Accurately document time spent, parts used, and services performed on appropriate forms.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, productive work area that meets regulatory guidelines and company housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Alert the Lead Technician to unsafe practices/conditions or any vehicle abuse.
  • Work the assigned shift and overtime as needed (AM/PM).

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
  • Demonstrated strength in diagnostics, electrical systems, and A/C.
  • Technical mastery of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.
  • Fleet background with familiarity across diesel and gasoline systems.
  • Ownership of recommended minimum hand tools for a Medium and Heavy Duty and Diesel Technician.
  • Proven judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Valid CDL License or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment.
  • ASE certification in brakes, suspension, engine, electrical, A/C; or Master School Bus and/or Master Truck Technician.
