Here, your curiosity fuels progress, your voice shapes innovation, and your ambition helps redefine what’s possible within science and learning. We are a culture that obsesses over impact, challenges, and drives what’s next to power infinite possibilities for our customers, colleagues and society at large.
About the Role:
The Lead Designer, UI/UX independently leads design efforts by studying user needs and experiences to make confident, strategic improvements grounded in research and feedback. This role owns design decisions from problem framing through delivery — identifying technical requirements, developing comprehensive ideas through advanced design artifacts, and partnering with research to validate outcomes.
The Lead Designer works autonomously with designers, researchers, and engineers, requiring minimal guidance. They stay informed on evolving technology and customer preferences, lead interaction design decisions that define system behavior and user flows and proactively identify opportunities to apply new interaction patterns using sound judgment to solve complex customer problems.
They demonstrate a strong command of core design heuristics and fundamentals, and clearly and persuasively communicate design rationale, tradeoffs, and decision‑making to stakeholders at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
1. User Research Leadership
- Study user needs and experiences to drive strategic improvements based on research and feedback
- Routinely analyze user feedback across products and services to identify patterns and opportunities
- Partner with researchers to shape research direction, scope efforts, and apply insights effectively
2. Advanced Design Development
- Independently identify technical requirements and develop design solutions using scenarios, sketches, storyboards, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes
- Translate user feedback and research into clear, actionable insights for UX and Product teams
- Define and communicate how features and experiences evolve over time, balancing near‑term delivery with long‑term product vision
- Design inclusive and accessible experiences that align with established accessibility standards and best practices
- Lead interaction design by defining user flows, states, behaviors, and system responses that create clear, usable, and predictable experiences
3. Collaborative Leadership
- Lead cross‑functional collaboration to establish and conduct user‑centered research and design efforts
- Work closely with designers, researchers, and engineers to explore, evaluate, and refine concepts from the customer’s perspective
4. Strategic Insights
- Provide design leadership and perspective to influence strategic product and UX decisions
- Synthesize research, business context, and customer needs to inform product vision and strategy
- Effectively present design thinking, tradeoffs, and recommendations to stakeholders, driving alignment and decision‑making
5. Technology & Innovation
- Stay informed on emerging technologies, interaction patterns, and customer expectations
- Evaluate and apply new approaches where they meaningfully improve customer experience and outcomes
6. Design Tools & Craft Excellence
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Figma
- Apply a strong foundation in information architecture and interaction design to structure clear, scalable, and intuitive experiences
7. Mentorship & Craft Leadership
- Act as a trusted resource for design best practices, craft quality, and decision‑making
- Support and guide less‑experienced designers through feedback and example
8. Impact
- Independently drive design outcomes that contribute to the success of their team and cross‑functional partners
- Deliver UX solutions grounded in strong design rationale that produce measurable user impact and advance product and business goals
