Role Overview

As a Lead Android Developer for the Mondly apps, you will play a key role in designing and developing cutting-edge mobile applications that revolutionize the way people learn languages. Your role will involve pushing the boundaries of what is possible with Android technology, working alongside a team of passionate engineers and cross-functional experts dedicated to creating immersive, user-friendly language learning experiences.

You have in-depth knowledge of and experience in the use of new technologies and in the development of effective and engaging consumer applications and will serve as a subject matter expert supporting other team members within Technology in this regard. You will be part of an Agile cross functional team responsible for building innovative, high-performance, scalable native applications using the latest technologies and frameworks. You will be responsible for developing high-complexity features, mentoring other colleagues for improving the overall code structure, providing technical solutions, and maintaining applications aimed at a range of Android devices, including phones and tablets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Android apps aligning with Mondly’s mission to transform language learning through technology.

  • Champion high-quality software development practices, focusing on reliability, performance, and maintainability within the Android ecosystem.

  • Lead technical decisions and serve as subject-matter expert in new feature development, code architecture, and high-complexity requirements in Android development.

  • Work collaboratively with your product manager, engineering manager, designers, and your team to define product vision, roadmap with a balance of product and tech topics, and development strategies that meet user needs and business goals.

  • Collaborate with the product delivery team to define, design, and ship new features.

  • Scale the Android team processes; improving release pipeline, build automation and monitoring.

  • Maintain and continuously improve our CI / CD tooling and processes.

  • Mentor and inspire your fellow Android engineers, promoting a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

  • Build proof of concepts and minimum viable products to experiment with new tech and validate product hypothesis.

  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.

  • Ensure code quality by setting a high bar for code reviews within the team.

  • Prioritize and estimate tasks efficiently, ensuring that scheduled launches happen according to planning and improving predictability.

  • Partner with fellow iOS, and Full stack developers in solving complex challenges in building best-in-class features and product enhancements across our product line.

  • Provide valuable and tangible feedback to your colleagues to enable them to reflect and improve continuously.

  • Participate and continuously improve the hiring process for Android developers.

  • Participate in onboarding new employees and ensure consistency around practices, tools and technologies used inside the team.

  • Promote a culture of partnership, teamwork, and innovation.

  • Promote a highly collaborative, customer-centric, data-driven culture that challenges norms with a bias to action; support diversity of thoughts, experiences, and approaches to solve issues.

  • Work with Test Automation Engineers to create & execute our test strategy for apps across the Android platform.

  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in Android technology, advocating for the adoption of innovative tools and methodologies that enhance product quality and user experience.

  • Bonus: Actively engage with the Android community, representing Mondly at industry events, contributing to open source, and sharing insights to promote the company’s innovative approach to language learning.

*Qualifications & Skills *

  • Degree in Informatics, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Extensive experience in Android development, with a proven track record of building successful mobile applications

  • Proficiency in Android Development. Experience with our current stack is a bonus.

  • Proven experience working in an agile team environment, demonstrating a strong understanding of agile methodologies and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative development culture.

  • Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to mentor engineers, encourage professional development, and lead by example in a technical and project-management capacity.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, capable of addressing complex technical challenges and delivering scalable, robust, and maintainable software solutions.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, adept at engaging with both technical and non-technical team members to drive projects forward.

  • Evident fluency in English
