Position Summary
The Vice President of Solution Design & Contract Management leads and integrates all pre-contract activities for Professional Development (PD) with a focus on driving growth and profitability. In collaboration with Sales and the PD Operations, this role ensures the PD business unit achieves corporate and financial objectives. Overseeing teams responsible for contracting, matching, and proposal development, this position ensures school and district needs are accurately identified, the right experts are assigned, and contracts are finalized effectively. By partnering with Sales, Marketing, Finance, PD Operations, and Author and Associate Relations, this position ensures every PD solution is well-structured, educationally and fiscally sound, and set up for success. After contracts are signed, the handoff to PD Operations is managed seamlessly, ensuring a cohesive client experience from start to finish.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
Leadership & Team Management
- Contracting Team: Ensure legally and financially sound contracts are developed and finalized efficiently, in compliance with company policies.
- Matching Team: Oversee the process for aligning qualified authors/associates to prospective contracts, ensuring swift turnaround and proper expertise fit.
- Provide strategic direction, oversight and support to directors/managers of the Contracting, Matching, and Proposal Development teams.
- Conduct regular check-ins to assess performance against KPIs, addressing obstacles and celebrating achievements.
- Collaborate with Sales and Business Development to build and refine PD offerings, leveraging a deep understanding of K–12 education trends and research-based approaches.
- Serve as a resource on scope, feasibility, and customization for districts and schools, ensuring proposals meet specific client requirements.
- Design and oversee the development of complex, customized PD plans that address unique challenges, align with district and school goals, and lead to measurable positive outcomes for educators and students.
- Lead contract negotiations with input from legal, finance, and executive stakeholders, balancing customer expectations with company standards.
- Hold signing authority on contracts, guaranteeing accurate completion prior to the handoff to implementation teams.
- Maintain compliance with legal, financial, and organizational policies throughout the contracting process.
- Develop and manage budgets for the department, ensuring efficient allocation of resources across teams.
- Maintain close coordination with PD Operations sharing critical details for service delivery once contracts are signed.
- Partner with the Author and Associate Relations to keep current on author/associate availability, skill sets, and desires.
- Work with Sales, Marketing, and Finance to uphold profitability, consistent messaging, strategic alignment, and smooth operational workflows from proposal to signed contract.
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or MBA preferred.
- Five or more years of experience in professional development, business development, or similar leadership roles—education or professional services background is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated success managing teams and complex projects.
- Excellent analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and virtual collaboration platforms (e.g., Zoom).
- Moderate travel required.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills, with a focus on designing high-impact PD solutions.
- Skilled at building collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
- Capable of balancing customer satisfaction, revenue goals, and organizational compliance.
- Deep commitment to ensuring that proposed PD offerings drive meaningful improvements in K–12 teaching and student outcomes.
